Description
The Personnel Division section in the 1954 Annual Records lists the following reasons for the employment drop between 1950-1951: "ren-entry of the U.S. into war, the re-activation of Fort Jackson and the contruction of an atomic energy material plant near Aiken. 375 personnel departed from the S.C. Department of Mental Health during this time, thus causing the weekly employment hours to increase while their pay decreased. Age restrictions and educational requirements for hiring employees lowered as well.
