Fire Insurance Maps

This interactive map shows Sanborn fire insurance maps of Columbia from 1904, 1910, and 1919. Known venues for motion picture exhibition in Columbia are indicated on these maps. The map also provides markers for traveling shows: Archie L. Shepard's Moving Pictures and Lyman H. Howe's Moving Pictures. Shepard visited South Carolina several times between September 1904 and March 1907. Howe made a tour in October 1904. Shows outside Columbia are not mapped to specific venues.
