The Record. Psychologist Comments on U.S. Mental Health Needs
Description
For 1953, it was estimated that a million adults and childern with mental disorders would need placement in mental hospitals. Hospitals were already overcrowded and this article seeks to answer questions pertaining to the increase of mental disorders in the United States. Dr Walsh was a psychologist at the University of South Carolina when this article was written. Dr. Walsh explains that "it is easier to prevent maladjustment and mental illness than it is to cure them." According to Dr. Walsh, parents and teachers have the greatest impact on a childs mental well being and he wants "to establish guidance clinics and other professional services vital for diagnosis and treatment of the more serious cases of maladjustment."
