The Papers of William Short has visited or requested materials from repositories in the United States, France, Spain and The Netherlands, the bulk of which were found in the Library of Congress’s William Short Papers, as well as associated collections therein. Other important repositories contacted were the Swem Library at the College of William and Mary; the American Philosophical Society, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and The Rosenbach in Philadelphia; The Filson Historical Society in Louisville, Kentucky; the Small Library at the University of Virginia; and the Southern Historical Collection at the University of North Carolina. In Europe, the Archivo histórico nacional (Madrid), the Archivo General de Indias (Sevilla), the Archives diplomatiques (Paris), and the Nationaal Archief (The Hague). Each document treated by the project includes specific source information.
