The Société Royale d'Agriculture de la Généralité de Paris had its origins in Louis XV's Agricultural Society of the Generality of Paris founded in 1761. One of its most important functions was to compile an encyclopedia of agriculture. It also conducted weekly meetings with the goal of diffusing agricultural knowledge into the French population at large.
