Benjamin Harrison (1726-1791) was a Virginia merchant, statesman, and delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses. Harrison served in the Virginia House of Burgesses before the American Revolution and as Governor of Virginia from 1781 to 1784. Harrison’s mercantile house handled William Short’s finances until 1786, though during his time as governor, Harrison’s business connections suffered from neglect. Short's cousin, Peyton Skipwith, warned that Short's affairs would suffer as well.
